Poem for a New World
dedicated to Jacqueline Hobbs
There is no anguish, only beauty
The candle flame and me
in communion.
Stepping off
the hamster-wheel of addiction;
I thought I would find myself
struggling and in pain.
But here
is only beauty and peace
Women join me here:
Teachers, mentors, guides
We walk side by side
our numbers swelling
as we sing the new world into being.
And our song is not separate
from the animal kingdom
or the light of stars
Deep in me
something is growing slowly
or being uncovered
Purity
It was there all along.
